Well, what a way to begin this journey. It seems obvious that there is some sort of miss match in what is considered acceptable language between different groups of people. Patrick Mercer has learnt the hard way that what might have happened in his time in the armed forces, and the way he can talk about it now are two very different things.

It seems a shame that this has happened to the Tories though. Even though I am not a Tory, and will probably never be one, I think it would be good to have a strong opposition party in the House of Commons, to help campaign against some of the ludicrous legislation trying to be passed these days. If this situation has reduced the opposition party’s position, then that can’t be a good thing. However, if they have managed to “prune” some “dead leaves” from their tree, it could provide opportunity for new growth and a lead to a stronger party in the end.

You really have to be careful about what you say, to who, and how – and how they are going to report it.

On Friday 9th March 2007, I bought The Times to get the free Lord of the Rings poster they were offering. Now I have the paper too, I didn’t just want to throw it out. So instead, I’m going to read every single article, and one by one, offer my views on it, and do a bit of research about the subject of the article.

Hopefully this will be a good use of the paper, and help increase my knowledge of the world too. I don’t expect to post every day, and there are 96 pages in the paper, so this will probably take a while! Fortunatly The Times republishes a lot of it’s printed content online, so I’ll add links to the original article where possible.
